A SHORT HISTORY OF THE ABOVE COMPANY
Founded 1896 by William Selig, this Chicago based company produced hundreds of early features, and started the career of many stars, including Tom Mix and Roscoe Arbuckle. The first "Tarzan" film, starring Elmo Lincoln, was shot on site there. An offshoot of their studio was their large collection of wild animals which eventually formed the Selig Zoo Park. The company shot its last film in 1918; its props were auctioned in 1923 and some animals donated to Los Angeles County.
